Hurricane Katrina Information

Aug. 29, 2005
Louisiana, Mississippi

Hurricane Katrina caused incredible destruction in Louisiana and Mississippi. Most of the city of New Orleans was flooded. Parts of Gulfport and Biloxi, Miss. no longer exist. Many other communities in southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi were also affected. Evacuees from New Orleans are now scattered over many states. It will be a long time, if ever, before some of them can return. Many lives were lost due to poor emergency planning and slow and inadequate response from governments at all levels.
